Big Band Blast
In 2015 and 2016, Newman Communications helped the Hastings get up and swinging to the sounds of the Big Band Blast.
Every year the Big Band Blast brings 600 musicians and 30 big bands from right across Australia to Port Macquarie for a whole weekend of free music. Led by music legend and artistic director John Morrison, the festival features non-stop community concerts across four big stages in a celebration that gets young and old tapping their toes.
Newman Communications works with Big Band Blast event organisers to promote the event within the local and regional community.
Our media program builds on the success of previous years to motivate even more community members to get involved with the Big Band Blast music festival by ensuring the event is pitched at a range of ages and musical interests.
Over a two month period we implemented a series of media activities including a long lead launch to get people writing the event in their calendars, interviews with special guest performers to highlight the quality of entertainment on offer, and short term promotion to boost attendance numbers over the weekend.
The Big Band Blast has grown to be the largest big band music festival of its kind in Australia, attended by thousands of people over three days.
The event has featured in regional television news programs, and in 2015 our clever musicians played the Prime news jingle to close out the bulletin. The Big Band Blast was promoted in numerous newspaper stories before, during and after the event – including the front page of the local community paper. Event organisers were interviewed on several local radio stations, and the ever-energetic John Morrison took part in an on-air jam session in 2016.
The Big Band Blast is a great boost for our local economy with hundreds of musicians, friends and family coming to stay. It’s also a whole of lot of fun for our local community with free entertainment all weekend! What an awesome project to be involved with.
